Small Towns, Big Change: Economics And Cannabis In Rural New Mexico

November 18, 2016 – Many New Mexicans have heard that recreational cannabis sales in neighboring Colorado is adding tax revenue to the state coffers. What could be the economic impact of a similar program in New Mexico?

This month NMiF teamed up with the Solutions Journalism project to look at whether recreational cannabis sales could be a potential solution for New Mexico’s ongoing budget crisis. We asked producers in the medical cannabis industry to tell us how they are contributing to the economies of rural communities and economist Kelly O’Donnell shares what she found when she studied the issue.
