Hogan, Richard
Richard Hogan is one of Albuquerque’s most celebrated painters. He sees his paintings as objects, and uses line and color to build spatial tension. During his 2001 residency at Tamarind, he collaborated with printers to create two lithographs that complemented the large painting he was working on at the time. The titles of these particular prints are names of small villages in Ireland. His longstanding interests in rock art, Paleolithic painting, and standing stones compelled him to conduct visits on a number of occasions; Rylane and Reenkilla are two of those sites.
Hogan received his BA and MA from the University of New Mexico in 1962 and 1967, respectively. His work is in the permanent collections at the Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, NM; the Albuquerque Museum, Albuquerque, NM; the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery, Lincoln NE; the Roswell Museum, Roswell, NM; and the Santa Fe Community College Collection, Santa Fe, NM.
