8/3/12 New Mexico in Focus Audio: Episode 605

As triple-digit temperatures roll into the state this week and the monsoon pattern – at least temporarily – rolls out, NEW MEXICO IN FOCUS continues to examine the drought.

State veterinarian Dr. Dave Fly, and Bernard Treat of the New Mexico Beef Council, will talk about the impact on livestock. Less water means less alfalfa for ranchers, which means hay has become a hot commodity. And the pair will talk about the rise of vesicular stomatitis in livestock herds across New Mexico.

The Line opinion panel examines a new policy by some police departments to use high tech cameras to run criminal checks on massive batches of license plates. The practice can catch stolen cars, but what’s being done with all the data from law-abiding citizens? And, the panel looks at news this week that home prices are on the rise nationwide, despite a sharp contrast with increased foreclosures in Albuquerque. Plus, are the myriad boards and commissions that oversee parts of New Mexico’s government doing the job we expect them to do? The Line debates it all.
