No Easy Solutions to NM’s Fiscal Crisis


January 27, 2017— This week on New Mexico in Focus we tackle some of the approaches lawmakers are considering to address gaps in the state budget for this fiscal year and next. Correspondent Gwyneth Doland talks to experts Richard Anklam and Fred Nathan about ways to cut from the budget and to raise revenue.

Richard Anklam is the executive director of the New Mexico Tax Research Institute, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. NMTRI provides analysis and information about tax policy and produces policy papers

Fred Nathan is the executive director of Think New Mexico, a nonpartisan think tank based in Santa Fe. The group has pushed for policy changes including capital outlay reform, repealing the food tax, establishing a healthcare transparency website and directing money from the state lottery back into college scholarships.
