Michael Bird’s Legacy in Re-shaping Our Public Health Systems

July 5, 2019 – Michael Bird is a familiar face on New Mexico in Focus as a regular contributor to the Line opinion panel segments. But he also has a long history of public health service. He was the first Native American to serve as president of the American Public Health Association. Last year, he was named one of the 75 most influential alumni of the past 75 years by the University of California’s Berkeley School of Public Health. His work has focused on medical social work, health care administration and public health policy. Bird sits down with NMiF correspondent Megan Kamerick to talk about his nearly three decades in public health, as well as his efforts to address health disparities for Native Americans.
