The Line: ABQ Considers Mirroring BernCo’s Newly Approved Leave Law
August 30, 2019 – Gene Grant and The Line opinion panel discuss Bernalillo County’s passage of a new paid leave law and the Albuquerque City Council’s look into whether a similar “leave for any reason” law would work for the city. Councilors Pat Davis and Isaac Benton are leading the charge to explore a paid leave ordinance, but some business groups are not behind the idea, saying it unfairly impacts small businesses. The Line debates the wisdom of adopting the ordinance, and how political stands affect councilors’ reelection prospects this November.
Line Panelists:
Janice Arnold-Jones, former NM state representative
Tom Garrity, The Garrity Group PR
Laura Sanchez-Rivét, Affirm
Cathryn McGill, NM Black Leadership Council
