Navajo Nation First Lady on MMIW

February 5, 2021 – New Mexico’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives Task Force recently released a report outlining its findings and recommendations to the governor and Legislature. The task force was created in 2019 by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. The 64-page report shows a need for data collection, resources, improved reporting of cases, and increased support for families. Violence against women and human trafficking continue to be contributing factors to missing and murdered Indigenous people cases in the state. New Mexico’s 19 Pueblos, Apache Tribes and the Navajo Nation are working on ways to address the issue.
