2024 Legislature Update & Climate Care for the Public
I’m going to try something a little bit different in this space: Rather than adding some context to a particular issue or segment we’ve produced for New Mexico in Focus, I’m just going to ask that you watch the two-part discussion we hosted at the roundtable this week. The legislative session is speeding to its end in Santa Fe, and we wanted to take stock of which pieces of legislation are moving, which aren’t and which should never have been introduced in the first place.
We enlisted Justine Fox-Young, an attorney and Republican former state representative, and Source New Mexico Editor Shaun Griswold to assist in this effort and, to the surprise of no one at NMPBS, they delivered. With Senior Producer Lou DiVizio hosting, the trio broke down bills related to education for Indigenous students, guns, the state’s pretrial detention system, panhandling and more. There’s a little something in there for pretty much everyone, whether it’s the New Mexico Constitution, schools, politics or something else that gets you interested in what’s happening at the Roundhouse.
Enjoy!
