NM Pride Month; Public Education Report Card

This week on New Mexico in Focus, Executive Producer Jeff Proctor speaks with Marshall Martinez of Equality New Mexico about celebrating Pride month and the current state of LGBTQ rights in the Southwest.

Correspondent Russell Contreras sits down with Dr. Karen Sanchez-Griego, a former superintendent of the Cuba Independent School District. Sanchez-Griego speaks on the state’s graduation rates and how the state’s public education can improve.

In 2021, Project ECHO at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center began a climate program with web-based trainings on health care decarbonizing, climate justice and health equity. Dr. Joanna Katzman directs Project ECHO’s Public Health Initiatives, and she talks about the importance of training health care professionals to recognize how climate change affects patient health — and how to find solace for their own climate anxiety.

Courtesy of the Koahnic Broadcasting Corporation, correspondent Antonia Gonzales takes us to the Native Youth Olympics in Anchorage, Alaska, where young athletes are encouraged to strive for their personal best while keeping in touch with tradition.
