Revisiting Food Justice in New Mexico

This week, we revisit “Food Justice in NM & Woodstock Oral Histories,” an episode we first ran in April. The bulk of this episode involves a special roundtable hosted by Our Land’s Laura Paskus, who joins three specialists to discuss food justice. The group digs into the problem of food waste, how it’s connected to climate change, and considers several possible solutions.

There are plenty of answers in this episode, ranging from small personal actions one can take at home, to becoming an advocate for larger systemic changes to the way our society considers the harms of food waste.

It’s a conversation rich with impactful ideas and Sandra West, a sustainable waste specialist with the City of Albuquerque, sums it up well in the last segment: Pick one thing mentioned in this episode that resonates with you, and go for it. Eat local. Compost your scraps at home. Find and support a neighborhood farmer or garden.
