Former APD Officer Encourages Return To Community Policing Model
January 8, 2016 – The Albuquerque Police Department is currently engaging in a process to reform policies and training for officers, which is required by a settlement agreement signed in 2014 between the city and the U.S. Department of Justice.
One former APD officer believes a return to community policing would help improve relationships and restore trust between officers and civilians.
Rep. Patricio Ruiloba retired after 20 years as an APD officer. He’s currently a police offer for the Albuquerque Public Schools and works at Atrisco Heritage Academy High School. Correspondent Stan Wilson recently sat down with Rep. Ruiloba to get his take on the current reform process and what he thinks officers need in order to return to community policing.
