About one third of Native Americans in New Mexico currently below the poverty line, according to census data. Economic development and job growth, both on tribal lands and in urban areas, is a significant issue for Native families and tribes in the 2016 elections. In this installment of the series Elections 2016: Voting For Future Generations, Henry Jake Foreman (Absentee Shawnee) shares his view on entrepreneurship among Native youth. Foreman started Karuna Colectiva and supports students who are seeking to bring their business idea into reality. Foreman is a Native Entrepreneur in Residence with New Mexico Community Capital.A group of students he worked with from the Native American Community Academy (NACA) pitched their business idea at the Native Biz content, put on by CNM earlier this fall.
