Christine Sierra and “Contested Transformation: Race, Gender, and Political Leadership in 21st Century America”

August 4, 2017 – Christine Sierra, Professor Emerita of Political Science at the University of New Mexico, is one of four co-authors of “Contested Transformation: Race, Gender, and Political Leadership in 21st Century America”, a book that looks at demographic changes in U.S. politics. “Contested “Transformation” surveys women and men of color who hold public office at the national, state, and local levels of government. It explores commonalities and differences across race and gender groups in their backgrounds, paths to public office, leadership roles, and policy positions. Although the book is used in college classrooms, it is filled with information that is important to those outside of academia.  Correspondent Russell Contreras sits down with Professor Sierra to explore some of those significant findings.
