The role of court appointed special advocates for children in foster care, local New Mexicans at Standing Rock
This week on New Mexico in Focus, correspondent Megan Kamerick looks at the role of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers in the courts and foster care system in New Mexico. These advocates play a crucial role in deciding where a child will live and ensuring their physical, mental and educational needs are met.
The Standing Rock protests this year drew Native Americans and non-Native supporters from across the country to North Dakota, including some New Mexicans. Correspondent Antonia Gonzales sits down this week with New Mexico residents to talk about why they went to Standing Rock and why they see a connection between that pipeline and other environmental concerns here.
