Katha Pollitt Argues Abortion Can Be A Moral Choice
October 16, 2015 – Congress has again been arguing over a hot-button issue: abortion.
Now some women’s rights activists are pushing back, especially on social media, speaking out about how their choice to end a pregnancy saved or improved their lives. At the same time Pope Francis made his first-ever visit to the United States.
The pope has announced that during a special year of mercy women may be forgiven for what the church sees as the sin of abortion. This week Gwyneth Doland interviews one prominent feminist writer, Katha Pollitt, who has written a book arguing that abortion should be seen as a normal part of life and a moral good. And she talks to the head of New Mexico’s Conference of Catholic Bishops about his trip to see the pope and his interpretation of Francis’s message on abortion— and more.
