Opening More Public Land to Hunters
April 17, 2020 – In early April, the Trump administration announced plans to open more than 2.3 million acres of wildlife refuges and hatcheries to hunting and fishing. The U.S Fish and Wildlife Service’s press release called it “the single largest expansion of hunting and fishing opportunities” in the agency’s history, and the proposal will apply to lands within two national wildlife refuges in New Mexico, Bitter Lake and Bosque del Apache. Correspondent Laura Paskus spoke with the New Mexico Wildlife Federation’s Jesse Deubel and John Horning of WildEarth Guardians.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is accepting public comment on the rule change until early June. You can go to http://www.regulations.gov and search docket number: FWS-HQ-NWRS-2020-0013 to find details on how to submit your comments.
