Outdoor Science Lab Loses Funding

May 28, 2021 – Since the 1990s, the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program has brought tens of thousands of students to the Rio Grande each year. There, students collect data on everything from the health of the cottonwood forest to the depth of groundwater. That long-term monitoring data has been used by federal and state scientists and academic researchers to learn more about the river and its bosque—and how they are changing. But now, the program’s funding is in jeopardy. Environment reporter Laura Paskus speaks with the director of the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program.
