Restoring Public Trust: Money In Politics
The People, Power and Democracy project is examining ethics, accountability and transparency in state government during the 2016 legislative session. Join our community conversation about the influence of money in politics.
- Are you concerned about dark money that is funding national campaign ads?
- Do you think big money gives some individuals and organizations greater access to politicians?
- Should the state increase oversight of campaign spending reports?
- Should New Mexico have an independent ethics commission for elected officials?
- What reforms would increase your trust in government?
Good government proposals like electronic campaign reporting, lobbyist expenditure reporting and changes to the campaign finance reporting process haven’t received the same attention this session as other high profile issues like crime bills, but we believe it is important to highlight the influences behind the scenes and potential solutions that might restore public trust and the health of our democracy.
