See you in a few weeks!
I just wanted to let you all know that I’m taking a break from writing the newsletter while working on a series about climate change, getting ready for some great shows and segments in April, and wrapping up work on a documentary. (This mountain lion photo, by the way, is a still from the documentary…)
Also, consider this a last reminder to apply for the Our Land Teaching Fellowship and teacher training event on Saturday, June 22, in Albuquerque.
The fellowship will provide 12 New Mexico teachers with a $500 stipend to attend a one-day workshop about climate change, PBS LearningMedia, and Our Land—and a session on the co-creation of new lesson plans most relevant and interesting to New Mexico’s middle school students.
The fellowship will also include opportunities for additional activities and resources—and lay the groundwork toward a cohort of leaders who are working with students on issues around climate change in New Mexico.
To apply, visit our education page.
And, just in case you’re wondering: The documentary, Ancestral Connections, focuses on the Pueblo of Santa Ana and will air on NMPBS on April 25.
In 2016, the pueblo paid $30 million for 60,000 acres of their own ancestral lands—lands that had been privatized and then grazed for more than a century. Now, the pueblo is using traditional knowledge and western science to protect Tamaya Kwii Kii Nee Puu for traditional uses.
This is a project we first started working on in 2022, and I can’t wait to share it next month. In the meantime, you can still follow Our Land on YouTube and Instagram. (Where you’ll soon see promos for the documentary!)
Thanks for subscribing to Our Land Weekly—and I’ll be back in touch in a few weeks!
P.S. If a friend forwarded you this message, sign up here to receive the newsletter yourself. You can also read recent newsletters online. And if you miss us throughout the week, follow Our Land on Instagram.
