The Line: State Outlaws “Lunch Shaming” In New Mexico Schools
April 14, 2017 – A bill passed in this year’s legislative session is getting national, and international, attention. The Hunger-Free Students’ Bill of Rights Act outlaws practices that single out students who have debt in the school cafeteria, like requiring students to help clean or serving them a cold sandwich instead of a hot meal.
Senator Michael Padilla (D-Bernalillo) sponsored the bill. He sat down earlier this week with producer Sarah Gustavus.
Host Gene Grant and the Line panelists look at what it means for New Mexico to be the first state in the nation to pass legislation to address this issue.
